Happy Hump Day! I've recently been asked quite a few questions regarding Fraxel so I decided to put it all out there and give you the 4-1-1 on my experience. So you keep asking, what is Fraxel? Fraxel is a resurfacing treatment that is proven to give you smoother looking skin. It helps with texture and will over time improve or reduce the appearance of wrinkles around your eyes. It can help tremendously with acne scars and surgical scars. I have only done Fraxel to my face and part of my neck but it can be done to your chest, arms, legs and back.
Obviously depending upon your skin and age your results could be different. This is my third round of Fraxel and I have seen the best results after the completion of this round. First of all lets talk about the things I wanted to improve when I decided to have my first round of Fraxel completed. I wanted to get rid of sun damage, improve the texture and increase the collagen in my skin. When I sat down with Dr. Angela Sturm from Facial Plastic Surgery Associates she was very open to my ideas and listened to everything I had to say in regards to my "wants". She was able to adjust the treatment to fit my needs. As you scroll through the photos below take a look how each day differs in terms of recovery.
All the pictures above are photos from treatment day and Day 1. The first step it to sit with a topical to numb your face. Yes, the treatment can be painful but with the numbing cream things feel much better. After an hour of numbing cream it's time for Fraxel. It doesn't take long at all, maybe 30 minutes and you are good to go. In the photos you can tell that my skin was already becoming red and a bit swollen around my eyes.
I will say that Day 2 is definitely the day I looked the worst. Take a look at the photos and you will notice the area of sun damage that is coming to the surface. I was also very swollen all over. Your skin will almost feel like sandpaper as it is healing and everything comes to the surface. That is also considered the exfoliation stage when your skin is healing just like when you have a sunburn. Day 3 is better in terms of being swollen and it's a BIG day because you can apply make-up. We all know that make-up will cover SO much! Things are looking up from here and you are just a day or so away from seeing the full results. (I'm sorry because I missed photos on Day 4) The results will be seen over the next 3-6 months as your deeper layers of skin continue to produce new collagen.
Here are a few photos of the before (on the left) and after (on the right) results. I'm very impressed with my results and how great Dr. Sturm did on my Fraxel! My skin is much brighter and tighter. Getting rid of sun damage is extremely important to me and does such amazing things to your skin. Since receiving my Fraxel treatments I have become more aware of the results of the sun on your skin and literally don't want to be in the sun without a hat. I apply sunscreen every morning and reapply when I know I'm going to be outside a lot during the day. I hope this is a part of your daily routine, it's SO important!
